After well over a decade of travelling around the world and shooting for the world's top brands I finally decided to take the time to start a blog. The past 20 years have gone by in a flash. I've been blessed with loyal clients who have become good friends and always gotten my work through word of mouth. I freely admit I have spent very little time updating my website, portfolio not to mention trying to dedicate time to write a blog.
Today I've found myself stuck in my apt here in New York due to the current pandemic and decided now was as good of time as any to share some of the things I have learned with fellow creatives. So in the coming days I will try to keep things light, entertaining yet try to share some knowlege that will help creative directors and people who are getting into this business.
I hope I can share things I have learned the hard way, some tips to keep in the game and a few laughs along the way. To everyone I have worked with, thank you for the privilage of working with some of the best people in the industry, you are all the reason I have been blessed with the ability to persue my passion as a career. I still get excited that I actually make a living doing what I love to do.
Today's shoots are not just a shot list anymore. Every client I work with needs photography, video, motion loop images and even if they don't ask they need content created exclusively designed for Influencers. Influencers are the new print and if they are not creating the content you need to be creating content for them. If there is one tip I can pass on today to both creative directors and photographers make every minute of a shoot count. Have an assistant shooting b-roll during hair and makeup, do some snapshots of the set, accessories, makeup, model, etc. This content is what Influencers crave to get their hands on and the more you can create the better.
I partnered up with a team a long time ago when I realized there needed to be more than the main photographer on set. So I work with a team approach and I focus on the campaign while my partner who handles the production is shooting everything going on behind the scenes. We have found when our clients have extra media we can package this up for bloggers and leverage Influencers to build brands. I can't stress how important this is for any brand. Hope this helps.
